An artist-led initiative and platform, katmapped.org grew out of the loss of art exhibitions worldwide during the Covid lockdown periods. It was created and curated by UK-based artists Kate Trafeli and James Stewart. katmapped developed international open calls with no entrance nor exhibition fees, resulting in curated, thoughtful and inclusive digital exhibitions, on a dedicated artist built platform at katmapped.org, and via @katmapped on Instagram. This initiative created a way for artists worldwide to participate and share their work without expense, travel or the cost of shipping physical work. The project began from a desire to connect artists and to amplify their work during a period of isolation and widespread exhibition closures.

Two international exhibitions were produced. 'You Are Here' launched in late 2020, exploring ideas of mapping, internal and external, and the ways those ideas might inform artistic practice. It was followed by' JUNGLE' - to be interpreted as any given artist chose and for which more than 600 works were submitted by artists worldwide; 40 were selected for the final exhibition.
