Ferry Lane, London - Public Mural Installation for the Greater London Authority
In 2023 Kate Trafeli was selected and commissioned by Haringey Counsel and Made by Tottenham for a GLA Mayor of London Creative Enterprise Zone public art project in Tottenham Hale. She was asked to create a 20-metre public mural outside Tottenham Hale rail and Underground station as part of the area’s regeneration programme. The temporary work was created in early 2023 and installed in December 2023.
The semi-abstract mural drew on the layered history of Tottenham Hale and the River Lea: waterways, marshes, animals, urban development and the changing communities that have occupied the area over centuries. Foxes appear as a recurring symbol of coexistence and adaptation, while colour, shape and movement reflect the cultural and social complexity of the neighbourhood. The work was conceived to make this stretch of Ferry Lane feel welcoming and hopeful for residents and visitors. The mural was created as a temporary site-specific public artwork for Ferry Lane, Tottenham, London, UK.
Their World — W1 Curates: Make It Blue, Oxford Street, 2021
In March 2021, W1 Curates selected Kate Trafeli’s painting Their World for inclusion in its large scale public digital exhibition at 161 Oxford Street. This was part of 'LightItBlue', a strand within the wider 'MakeItBlue' campaign supporting the NHS and frontline workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The work was shown on Thursday evenings across the building’s large-scale digital displays, temporarily transforming a commercial Oxford Street façade into a public exhibition space. W1 Curates describes its Oxford Street site as an immersive environment using high-resolution LED screens across its internal and external surfaces, while contemporary documentation of the 2021 project records the exterior of the Flannels flagship being used for large-scale artist projections in support of the NHS
